RELEASE
Hannah Shillito is a Brighton-based contemporary artist whose attention-grabbing and playful work emanates pleasure and positivity. This piece is from a series released by Shillito to celebrate the 2023 release of the Barbie movie.
Here, Shillito depicts her Barbie looking fabulous in gold and surrounded by fairy lights. By trapping her doll inside a glass jar, Shillito comments on how the patriarchy continues to keep women contained.
As a fun little twist, the piece comes with a small gold hammer that you can use to smash the jar should you want to destroy the patriarchy once and for all.
This original piece is created with a Barbie doll, foil leaf, lights and a bell jar. It comes signed by the artist.
